33 - Demo CDR/CCHC Bitchfest

Hatecore from Cardiff featuring Tony from Dukes Of Nothing and members of Ironclad (probably some people from Wardogs too, the Cardiff scene has a weird incestuous thing about sharing members of each others bands).

Now before I start this I want to make it perfectly clear I’ve got nothing against Welsh people. My Mother’s family originally came from Wales and I’m very aware and proud of my Welsh heritage. I’ve got nothing but love for Welsh people, Welsh Hardcore kids I don’t like so much. The Welsh scene has been responsible for some of the worst Beatdown Hardcore in recent years and Welsh Hardcore kids at shows mosh like arseholes (have you ever seen that dude from Ark Of The Covenant? He’s always jumping up and taking big swings at head level). The first time I saw Brutality Will Prevail in Chatham they brought another Welsh band called The Joyride Manoeuvre with them, while they played BWP’s drummer and merch girl started dancing in a manner so violent it shocked the local kids who were used to just two stepping at the time, since then Wales and Kent has had a weird kinship, whenever there is a big show here there’s usually two, three, fuck me, sometimes as many as four Welsh bands on the bill. It isn’t all shitty Beatdown in Wales, there has been a few good bands like Freeze Up (R.I.P.), Ironclad (as thug like as they come off they are actually a decent band), 33 and Smiler (who I don’t really associate with the CCHC scene as they’re all old boys who look like they were around for Hardcore in the 80’s).

Barricades And Broken Dreams - An International Tribute To Conflict

Another UK released comp that isn't all UK bands.  Unlike the Cro-Mags tribute that Blackfish also put out, this is actually really good.  I ordered this by accidentally scribbling the wrong catalogue number in the Plastichead (who distributed Blackfishs stuff) order form.  I hadn't actually heard of Conflict before being sent this comp and on the strength of a few bands I already liked on the album I checked them out and they subsequently became one of my favourite bands and (along with Youth Of Today) convinced me to stop eating meat and become concerned with Animal Rights.  Brits: Freebase, Statement, Four Letter Word, Medulla Nocte, Kismet H.C., In The Shit, Labrat, Engage, Silent Season, Rotunda, Human Error, Egg Raid, Wat Tyler, Cracked Cop Skulls, Unique Freak, Kraynium, I Oppose Thee (members of Rectify, 100,000 Bodybags and In The Shit collaborating for this comp), Co-Exist, Dogshit Sandwich, Cornflakes, M.T.A. Yanks: Aus-Rotten, Nu Speak, Litmus Green, Pols: Sunrise, Italians: Kafka, Swedes: Driller Killer.

Toecutter/Man Hands split 7"

Toecutter is Hangover Heartattack all growned up.  The future of Man Hands is uncertain as Gareth has just left to do the refomed November Coming Fire full-time again.  I was at their last show in Margate a couple weeks ago but had to leave before they played as the show started late and I had to get the last train that went anywhere near me, I only found out later it was their last show with Gareth, bum, oh well, at least I got to see them three times in their short run.  The song Paedo Bikini on the Man Hands side is about the chainstore Primark selling padded bikinis aimed at prepubescent girls

MFKZT - Demo aka "Orson Welles" CDR

Three piece Grindcore from Farnborough, no drummer, just a machine and a lot of film samples. The letters in their name doesn’t actually stand for anything, they just picked a name with no vowels so people would constantly miss-pronounce their name, and to confound things further they would tell different people different pronunciations themselves (I’ve heard them called MooFooKZiT, the last time I saw them they said it was MerFerKerZerT, and that’s the one I’m sticking with). Guitarist Nick went on to write for Kerrang and plays in the Rise Above signed trad. Doom band Witchsorrow with his wife.

The Sludge Post

Charger - Confessions Of Man (Mad Enough To Live Amongst Beasts) CD

Iron Monkey infulenced Sludge from Stoke-On -Trent.

Lazarus Blackstar - Revelations CD

More Doom than Sludge but they did feature Paul Catten who was the vocalist in Death/Rap/Metalcore band Medulla Nocte and co-vocalist in Murder One with Johnny Morrow before he died.  They have a new singer now who looks like Johnny Depp in Pirates Of The Caribbean.  This features a Sludged up cover of I Bleed Black by Saint Vitus

Pale Horse - Gee, That Ain't Swell CD

Avant-Sludge, guitarless, two bass attack from London featuring members of Million Dead and Armed Response Unit.
