The HIRS Collective/Thou - "I Have Become Your Pupil" Nirvana covers split LP

The HIRS Collective are a queer Mathcore band from Philadelphia.  They originally started off as a two person Cybergrind act called +HIRS+ because MySpace was still a thing when they formed.  I've heard people try to sell them as "Queer Powerviolence" in the "if-you-say-a-thing-is-Powerviolence-then-it-is" school of thinking but they're really not, they sound like a band you'd stumble into because someone had them for their profile song, so imagine [random early 00's scene band name generator] Heavy Heavy Low Low but if they actually had a purpose to exist.

If EyeHateGod are your dad's Sludge band then Baton Rouge's Thou are the band your hipster cousin wouldn't tell you about because he doesn't think you're cool enough to known.  They fucking LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE Nirvana, if you collected all the covers they've done previously they could put out a whole LP themselves.

I sourced this from the Feast Of Tentacles UK pressing, I got the pre-order which promised a "mystery gift."  The last time I got a pre-order bundle from the label the mystery gift was another record (and that's how I came to own the Horders LP), a bulky package comes in the mail and with the records I ordered comes this
I tried selling it on eBay as Nirvana/Hole fanart, then as just a picture frame (with the same picture in it, of course) and no one wanted this stupid thing.  I gave it to my mum, who at the time of writing has not replaced the picture in the frame, I see it every weekend I go back home to visit.

During the downtime since my last post someone from a Canadian label reached out to spot light Zegema Beach Records.  Since I've been doing this blog I've had bands ask me to promote a demo because they're very new or someone I'm friends with has asked to make a digital rip of their new release but this is a first.  I'm not doing a whole post as there is too much to go through, but they've put out some stuff by Screamo bands I already fuck with like Shizune, Coma Regalia, Улыбайся Ветру, Locktender, Old Soul, Lentic Waters, Republic Of Dreams, Øjne & Amber.  A lot of the stuff on their Bandcamp is pay what you want so check out the link above.

Man Hands/Human Junk - "Man Junk" split tape

I don't do this often, in fact I outright refuse to repost old stuff I've already made rips of, but the first attempt of this came out so quiet (I hadn't done too many tape rips before) that I decided to make a new rip.

Man Hands are a Thrashcore in the vein of Charles Bronson.  Started with ex-members of Winter In June, November Coming Fire and at the time current members of Lakes/Kid Pang, Gareth from NCF left after the second release and replaced by John from Sky:Lark, this was the first release with him on vocals.  They haven't released anything new in a while but they can be coaxed into playing live every now and then.  Members are also playing in Rudimentary Peni doing Post-Punk band Snob, Converge playing Neocrust unit Harrowed, spacey Krautrock inspired Cosmic Thoughts and Post-several genres Negative Space.

Human Junk were a Powerviolence band from Broadstairs  modelled after Hellnation.  Came from the ashes of Face Of Death and existed at the same time as the entirely too short lived Mind Eraser style band Ripped To Shreds.  After they finished Sam playing in two piece Post-Hardcore band Wedding with one of the guys from Kind Eyes.

This is the part where I get weepy that the scene in Kent is non-existent and it won't be what it was when there was still shows at the old practice rooms in Cliftonville "but what about the burgeoning scene in Folkestone and the new practice room venue in Minster?" I LIVE IN MAIDSTONE, DO YOU KNOW HOW HARD IT IS TO GET TO THOSE PLACES BY TRAIN AND HOW EARLY I'D HAVE TO LEAVE TO GET ONE BACK?  Why don't YOU come to MY town, you can see bands at Drakes pub for free AND get gluten free Vegan pizza, would that be so bad?

EDIT: Since I wrote This, Drakes has shut down and Ponga Foods, who provided the Vegan pizza have moved to a café in Allington.

EDIT: Since adding that edit Drakes has reopened under new management and Ponga now operates three days a week out of an antique shop in Chatham, they no longer do pizzas.

Hooded Menace/Algoma - split 12"

You know what, fuck it, I'm not even going to address when I take ages between posts anymore.  I have a grown up job and a house with a mortgage on it, I don't always have time to do this.

Sump/Sesso Violento - split 7"

I'm not dead, grown up life has just been getting in the way again.

Sesso Violento broke up for the 2nd time at the end of last year.  Originally an off shoot for the members of Cthulhu Youth (minus Aaron), broke up and continued with just the singer, Umberto playing most of the instruments (with Aaron playing drums), resurrected as a live band by recruiting the members of Cease To Exist.

Sump is a two man Blackened Punk band from Yorkshire.

SxFxCx/Bestial Vomit - split 7"

Smelling Fetid Corpse: Not a shitty Goregrind band like the name would suggest, two piece Grindcore project from Lima, Peru with a girl on vocals and a guy playing everything else.
Bestial Vomit: Grindcore from Bastardo, Italy, which I was surprised to find out is a real place.  They've recently been on an epic tour month Euro tour (which is just wrapping up at the time I'm posting this), I've managed to catch them in London and Eindhoven, weirdly they were promoted at both shows as being from Peru.  Two reasons I could see why; 1) there's a Black Metal band from Lima with the same name who unlike the Italian band have a presence on Facebook, so when promoters are looking for information to put on their event page they are lazily putting the band name in the search bar and just coming up with the other band 2) the band themselves are pretending they're the Black Metal band just to fuck with people, both of which are entirely plausible.

Art Of Burning Water/Famine - split 7" and some loose thoughts on the current UK scene

This was penciled in to come out last year (if you remember the last time I wrote about this band), but instead they released an LP, a split tape with Containment from London, a split 7" with Nothing Clean from Leicester (a band a highly recommend if you miss Gets Worse and want to hear a UK band do Powerviolence the way it should fucking sound) and a remix tape, all in the past year, I've compared them to Melvins, not just they are the most obvious influence but because they also try to emulate their insane release schedule.

Unfortunately they've been forced to cancel all of their shows this Summer due to vocalist/guitarist Grief getting injured before they were supposed to play Supersonic festival in Birmingham.  I was disappointed to hear about that as they don't seem (or at least rarely) play outside of London and playing a festival like that is the kind of recognition they really deserve, of any genre I think of them as one of the best live UK bands active right now.  I encourage everyone to buy their records, not to offset any medical costs (thankfully this is still a country where healthcare is considered a human right) but because they're a solid band who deserve all the support they get.

Famine are a three piece Grindcore band from Leeds who sprang from the family tree of bands coming from The Afternoon Gentlemen.  While I'm thinking about current bands from Leeds, I also want to recommend Lugubrious Children, three piece Powerviolence band who've just done a tour of USA (more and more of our DIY bands seem to be doing that, Endless Swarm, Powerviolence from Edinburgh, Dawn Ray'd Blackened Crust from Liverpool from the ashes of We Came Out Like Tigers, at the time of writing Mister Lizard, arty Powerviolence from London have just finished roaming the States...what was I talking about, oh yeah, bands from Leeds) and Hex, gender balanced Thrash/PV.

Disrotted/Su19b - split tape

I didn't die, I've just been busy with real life shit in the last couple of months.

Disrotted: Sludge from Chicago, just one song on their side that's nearly half an hour long, according to Discogs it's broken down into several movements but I can't be bothered to work them out.
Su19b: Tokyo legends who mix Powerviolence with Sludge, their side is only about half as long.

Nervous Mothers/Art Of Burning Water - split 7"

NM: Raging Powerviolence from Antwerp, Belgium.
AOBW: Rearranging what I said about them a few posts ago, they sound like Melvins gone Crust, they also have a third split coming out this year with Famine, a great Powerviolence band from Leeds.

I got this at the record release show two weeks ago but you can get it from SuperFi Records, buy it, fuckos.
I went to the trouble of making a rip of this and then they gone done and put it up on Bandcamp for "pay what you want"
